About

“That was 90 percent gravity…”

I can thank Buster Bluth for what has become my web moniker and eventual business name. This is my professional blog, the focus being all things web development. Literally speaking, this is my blog in which I speak technically. I’ve been learning Ruby on Rails for the past year and a half or so, and have been getting pretty serious about it the past six months. Thus, many posts will pry be based on the framework. In addition, I have a great deal of experience with XHTML, CSS, web standards and I’ve used many other web technologies such as javascript, coldfusion, php, etc. I hope to one day be the sweetest web developer ever, and I’ll share my knowledge here as I attain it.

I’ve named the theme of this website “90 Percent Oak” because atleast 90% of the design work was done by a great friend and designer, Tim O’Connor. I also owe him a great deal of gratitude for my brand new logo, damn it’s sexy. I can take credit for tiny amounts of the design, but I’m more of a code guy. Thus I coded a great deal of the XHTML and CSS. The site runs on Simplelog, a wonderful little RoR blog app that allows me a great deal of flexibility and room to code.

Well, the header here, that’s my name. You can call me Bill, or Billy, or make up a nickname you like. I’m 24, currently residing in my hometown in South Jersey, and learning how to properly set hours when you work for yourself. Blue eyes, brown hair, six foot, kind-hearted, foul-mouthed.

I’m a young buck working as a web developer. I spent the first two and a half years of this pursuit working at the Notre Dame Web Group at the University of Notre Dame. There, I was crafted into the Web Standards savvy, cutting edge web guy I try my best to be. When I graduated from the school in spring of ‘06 with a fancy Computer Science Engineering degree, I decided to make Indiana my home, and came on at the web group fulltime as Assistant Web Developer. I loved the web group, the level of work we accomplished, and the people I worked with a great deal. But the world’s a big place and I decided I couldn’t sit around the college town forever. I moved to Chicago, and after a brief stint with a startup company which was full-time front-end work with a backend of java, I realized just how important it was for me to stick to my programming guns and not settle. I want to be the best developer I can be. Thus, I need to take on projects that take advantage of my Ruby on Rails passion and where my front-end work can be a part of my days, not the entirety of my work-life. So I temporarily decided so much for seeing the world, instead I’ll startup a freelance business for myself with the comfort of having lifelong friends and family around. Once I’m on solid ground, who knows where the winds will take me, but for now I’m enjoying the ride and the benefits of living 12 miles out of Philadelphia. I’m taking on new work now (hint) so email me (hint) with job offers (hint) and money (hint). I specialize in subtlety.
